Description |
Jeanette Sloan (Chicago 1946; lives and works in Chicago) Tornado, 2005 Linocut and lithograph, 1/5 artist's proofs (edition of 50) Published by Landfall Press, Inc. 35 x 26 inches Knoxville Museum of Art, 2015 gift of Helen and Russell Novak in honor of their children, Janet Novak Goldberg of blessed memory and James Alan Novak During the course of making sketches of objects in her kitchen, Jeanette Sloan discovered an interest in of representing distorted reflections on the surfaces of chrome vessels and appliances. She began painting and drawing staged groupings of reflective objects set against boldly patterned fabrics. The artist eventually tried her hand at translating this imagery in print form, as in Tornado. Although using a painstaking photo-realistic style, Sloan presents the objects in close-cropped, seamless environments whose hypnotic and disorienting qualities recall Op Art. |
