Václav Cigler (Vsetín, Czechoslovakia 1929; lives and works in Prague, Czech Republic) Cross Form, circa 2000 Cast and assembled glass 22 x 22 x 10 1/2 inches Knoxville Museum of Art, 2014 gift from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. M. Blair Corkran in memory of her parents Mary Lee and Julius Hale Cigler is recognized as a master sculptor of the Czech glass movement known for his refined geometrical objects made from cut solid optical glass. His work focuses on the most essential forms - circles, spheres, cylinders, rectangular elements - and their ability to interact with reflected and refracted light in surrounding spaces. |
