Beauford Delaney (Knoxville 1901-1979 Paris) Self-Portrait, circa 1962 Crayon on newsprint 25 3/4 x 19 3/4 inches Knoxville Museum of Art, 2014 purchase with funds provided by the Rachael Patterson Young Art Acquisition Reserve Over the course of his fifty-year career, Beauford Delaney produced many highly inventive and insightful portraits and self-portraits, the vast majority of which are head studies. This large drawing is a preliminary sketch for an oil canvas self-portrait in the collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts. |
