Betsy Worden (1935-2006 Knoxville) Summit Hill Gate, 1974 Watercolor on paper 24 x 30 inches Knoxville Museum of Art, 1974 purchase from the 3rd Annual Tennessee Watercolor Society Exhibition by the Women's Committee "A continuing subject matter of interest [to me] has been the early homes and buildings of Knoxville, Tennessee. The changing patterns of their rooflines and porches and the shadows of their gates have been challenging and stimulating. The painting Summit Hill Gate was part of a series of work on Summit Hill prior to the demolition of all the historic homes to make way for Summit Hill Drive. This watercolor on paper provides a fleeting glance of an earlier time and a vision of things to come." |
