Social Realists championed causes of social justice through their art, bringing social ills to light. In the Depression-era 1930s, Soyer often portrayed working women, seeing them as particularly hard hit during the Depression. After 1940 he made intimate studies of women, portraits of fellow artists, and self-portraits. His twin brother Moses Soyer was also an artist. |
